Closure updates:

The A.T. is now closed from Dicks Creek Gap/U.S. 76 in Georgia (mile
69.9) to the Nantahala River/US19/US74 in North Carolina (mile
137.1).
- The
Nantahala River is the last point at which southbound hikers
can easily leave the Trail prior to reaching the closure.
- Hikers
are asked to respect closures for their own safety as well as the safety
of firefighters and rescue personnel.
- The
status of trail closures due to wildfires can change faster than we are
able to update this page—when hiking, please defer to the information
and instructions you receive from firefighters or other Forest
Service personnel on the Trail.
Shuttle service for hikers:
- There
is currently a shuttle service available to shuttle hikers from Nantahala
River & NC 143 south to Dick’s Creek Gap in GA. A directory of
shuttles can be found at: http://appalachiantrail.org/transportation.
- The
Appalachian Trail Conservancy will still consider thru-hikers affected by
the fires as thru-hikers who can apply for 2,000-miler status.
