Resources Assigned: Thompson’s Eastern Montana Type II Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire on Nov. 21st at 8:00 pm. The IMT is working closely with local NC Forest Service, US Forest Service, and McDowell County partners. Resources assigned to the incident include: 9 - Type 2 hand crews, 16 engines, 4 dozers, and 2 helicopters.
Closures: Hwy 80 from Toms Creek Road to the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed to nonresidents. Clear Creek Road, at the junction with Old Clear Creek Road, is closed to nonresidents.
Current Status: The fire received about one tenth of an inch of rain yesterday evening slowing fire acitivity overnight and into this morning. Fire crews working along the southern, eastern and northern perimeter near Lake Tahoma Road patrolled and held the fireline extinguishing any hot spots. Structure assessment and prep began in the area of Locust Cove. Along the western edge of the fire, crews continued to prep, install, and improve indirect fireline. Helicopter bucket drops were successful in slowing the fire spread to the west and holding the fire at Clear Creek. Overnight, firefighters patrolled and monitored the fire along the southern, eastern and northern edges of the fire.
Planned Actions:  Firefighters working on the southwest portion of the fire will continue to construct and improve indirect fireline utilizing dozers and hand crews. Crews will continue to improve fireline on the northwest edge of the fire in preparation for firing operations as needed. Structure protection will continue along the Clear Creek Road and Hwy 80 as crews patrol and continue with assessment. Several aviation resources are available and will assist firefighters in holding fireline and slowing fire spread with bucket drops as visibility allows. Night operations are scheduled for this evening.
Weather:  Warmer temperatures are expected today in the low 60’s with higher relative humidities and light winds. Cloudy to partly cloudy with showers possible in the morning.
