PNW Team3 IC Noel Livingston, would like to thank the local citizens for the warm Southern hospitality that the firefighters assigned to the incident have received over the last few weeks and would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
Yesterday’s Activities:  The weather on Wednesday did not allow for burnout operations.  Instead focus was on completing the structure protection for homes and property east of the fire in the areas of Betty’s Creek Road and Patterson Gap. The structure protection group, staffed with additional personnel, continued to build and improve new and pre-existing lines. Dozer lines that will protect the area were completed. Containment efforts and preparations for future burnout continued on the northern edge of the fire from Deep Gap Trail Head to India Ridge.
Today’s Operations:   Weather permitting, Firefighters will begin firing operations to help bring the fire down to containment lines. These operations will be on the north end of the fire from Chestnut Ridge to Indian Springs, as well as on the southeastern part of the active edge of the fire down towards Patterson Gap west to Abe Gap. Burnout may include use of air and ground resources. Wet weather could hinder these operations as raised fuel moisture and relative humidity making conditions unfavorable for a successful outcome. Structure groups will continue to hold and improve structure lines in and around all structures in the Patterson Gap and Betty’s Creek Road area.
Weather: A weak low pressure system brought light showers to the fire early Thursday. The winds will be light late Thursday night and early Friday morning resulting in dense fog especially in the valleys. High pressure will return Friday bringing drier air back to the area. No rain is expected for the weekend.
