Pinnacle Mountain
Fire Continues to Grow
Heavy
smoke generated as flames dance across Table Rock.
|
PICKENS, SC— The Pinnacle Mountain Fire has grown to over 6,000 acres as
containment efforts also grew to approximately 37% in this 13 day old wildfire.
Over
250 crew members continued to attack the fire on multiple fronts using 7
bulldozers, 2 fire tracks, and 3-20 person hand crews (totaling 60 people)
working to clear fuel and establish containment lines.
Efforts
throughout the day to extinguish the fire from the air were hampered by low
visibility and excessive smoke. Limited
water drops were conducted on the northeastern potion of the fire by two
Chinook and one Black Hawk helicopters.
The
most recent estimates indicate the fire has cost approximately $2.6 million and
will continue to climb. Three 20-person
hand crews have been ordered.
To
date there have been no injuries, no loss of life and no residential or major
structural losses have occurred.
