11/22/16 Chestnut Knob Evening Fire Update 7:00 p.m.

Current Status

  • The fire is currently estimated at 6,435 acres in steep terrain with an estimated containment of 65%.
  • Moderate winds and low humidity are still allowing re-burn.   
  • Seven engines and three hand crews were released to assist with the new fire starts in the area.
  • Teams met to develop a plan to repair possible damage to trail areas and stream crossings.
  • The Burke County Emergency Response Leadership along with the Red Cross have advised that if anyone is in need of a shelter due to the effects of the Burke County wildfires please call   (828) 764-7146.

Plans for Tomorrow: 
Continue mop up and to hold the fire line in all divisions and improve fire lines.  Structure protection and triage.
