11/20/16 2:45 p.m. Piney Mountain and Clear Creek Fire Update


McDowell County Emergency Management Advisory 2:02 p.m.

Firefighters continue to battle McDowell woods blazes; no evacuations have been conducted.

Firefighters continue to battle the two wildfires that are currently raging in McDowell.

The U.S. Forest Service has taken control of the Piney Mountain fire off Curtis Creek Road in Old Fort. Local, regional, state and federal crews continue to work the Clear Creek fire in Pleasant Garden, which has grown to more than 800 acres. No evacuations have been necessary thus far. Emergency crews continue to keep residents in that area abreast of the situation.

Citizens living in the vicinity of these locations are asked to continue to shelter in place. Due to the amount of fire equipment, the roads are closed to incoming and outgoing traffic.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for McDowell, meaning fire conditions are critical.

Report any and all fires to 911.
