Dobson 3 Fire Update
Cherokee NC – We
had a very small amount of rain come through the Cherokee area on Friday
morning. This moisture made little to no impact on the dry fuels in the area.
A Burn
ban remains in effect for the Qualla Boundary
Until
further notice.
We
have resources available to assist local resources with any new fires that may
start within the Qualla Boundary.
Fire
suppression crews continue to monitor and patrol all fires within the Qualla
Boundary. Safety of the firefighters and
the community is number one priority as the firefighters go
about
their daily responsibilities.
Air
Quality has continued to improve. Smoke
continues to impact the area from wild fires occurring in close proximity to the
Qualla Boundary.
Fire
prevention is extremely important in the community. Fires are started by cigarettes, sparks from
vehicles in the dry grass, outdoor fires of any kind, and campfires that are
not put out cold. The public can help
prevent forest fires by being proactive in observation and reporting of fires.
All
fires currently burning are under investigation by local law enforcement. Thirty five fires have burned within the
Qualla Boundary since October. The
Bureau of Indian Affairs is seeking information regarding arson fires on Indian
Lands through the WeTip Program. Up to
$10,000 is being offered through this anonymous program. WeTip can be contacted through their website:
