Danger Remains
All roads that had been closed due to the Party Rock
Fire at Lake Lure are now open and all evacuation orders and pre-evacuation
notices were cancelled as of noon today. However, fire managers would like to
remind citizens that the fire danger remains very high because of the ongoing drought
and that they should continue vigilance in watching for fire information and
hazards. Today, North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler
extended the open burning ban to an additional 22 counties. For more
information on that ban please visit ncforestservice.gov/.
“The fuels cannot get any drier,” said John Cook, a
Fire Behavior Analyst on the Party Rock Fire. “They are at historically dry
levels right now, and humidity levels have been very low as well.” No rain is
in the forecast for Tuesday with only a chance of showers on Wednesday, therefore
everyone is asked to use extreme caution with anything that could cause another
fire. Two new wildfires were reported in McDowell County over the weekend.
Because of the continued progress on the Party Rock
Fire, resources are now being released to other fires or to return home. No
further donations of any kind are needed to support the remaining fire
fighters. The Brandon Incident Management Team would like to extend a special
thank you to the citizens of the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village communities
and surrounding areas for their outpouring of generosity to those involved with
fighting the Party Rock Fire.
